Elon Musk, the owner and CEO of Twitter, aggravated his detractors once more on Sunday, earning the wrath of a senior senator who chairs the Commerce committee.

Sen. Ed Markey, D-Mass., tweeted on Friday that he was looking for clarification from Musk and Twitter following a washington Post reporter’s creation of an imposter account with a blue checkmark in the senator’s name to demonstrate how simple it is to pass as someone else.
I’m asking for explanation from @elonmusk, who puts money before people and is required to put an end to falsehoods,
Musk insulted people in his response on Sunday.

The Senate’s Commerce, Science, and Transportation Committee, which has the authority to look into Musk and his businesses and is in charge of the Federal Trade Commission and the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, is made up of Markey.
After the Post reporter was able to build the false account, Twitter reportedly blocked signups for its new Twitter Blue subscription service.

Anyone who pays $8 per month can now get a blue checkmark under Musk’s new approach; previously, the business had to verify the legitimacy of people who earned the blue checkmarks.
Musk also made fun of Markey for having a mask on in his profile photo. For more over two years, Markey has promoted mask use as a COVID-19 preventative measure. Meanwhile, Musk has played down COVID and disregarded regulations.
Maybe it’s because your real account sounds like a spoof, she suggested. said Musk.
Markey responded to the CEO of Tesla TSLA, +2.75% by threatening him with the following statement:
“One of your firms is subject to an FTC compliance decree. The NHTSA, which monitors auto safety, is looking into another for causing deaths. And you spend your time online picking battles. Fix your businesses. Congress will instead.
